Background & Job Description

The International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) is a global nonprofit dedicated to advancing inclusive and sustainable peace in conflict-affected countries. ICAN supports women-led peacebuilding organizations and leads the Women’s Alliance for Security Leadership (WASL).

For Fall 2025, ICAN seeks a Communications and Social Media Intern to support its digital strategy, public outreach, and campaign engagement. This remote, paid opportunity will provide exposure to advocacy, gender-responsive analysis, and global peacebuilding communications.


Tasks

  • Develop and schedule social media content, including captions, visuals, and newsletters.
  • Monitor and engage in online conversations related to Women, Peace, and Security (WPS).
  • Provide live event coverage through social media and reporting.
  • Conduct research and support drafting of articles, interviews, and campaign stories.
  • Assist with analytics and prepare performance reports with recommendations.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Graduate students and recent graduates preferred; exceptional undergraduates considered.
  • Academic background in communications, international relations, gender studies, or peace and conflict studies is strongly encouraged.

Experience

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube.
  • Experience with Canva and Hootsuite is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of gender, peace, and conflict issues.
  • Previous nonprofit experience is a plus.
  • Language skills in Arabic, Farsi, or French are an asset.

Additional Information

  • Internship Period: September 2025 – January 2026 (flexible dates).
  • Commitment: Part-time (20 hours/week) or Full-time.
  • Compensation: Paid internship.
  • Location: Remote.
